European Court of Auditors: EU defence readiness by 2030 remains a challenge

The European Court of Auditors said EU defence readiness by 2030 "remains challenging": 78 percent of EU defence purchases from February 2022 to June 2023 came from outside the bloc, 63 percent from the US, despite a 79 percent spending rise since 2020.

Reported The Guardian, 3 September 2026 (syndicated in Irish Examiner)

What it does not test. Does not itself change any ownership, operation, legal or supply arrangement; it is an audit finding, not an action.

How this item counts. No movement: no answer to who owns, who operates, whose law governs or who made the parts changes. Weight 0. Audit finding on EU-wide non-EU procurement share; changes nothing itself, per text. European Sovereignty Index
