TKMS and Fincantieri sign MoU on joint underwater defence framework

Germany's TKMS and Italy's Fincantieri signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen submarine and underwater cooperation, intending a formal collaboration framework by year end, subject to regulatory approval; both firms stay independently operated.

Verified Fincantieri press release, 1 September 2026

What it does not test. Does not establish a merger, a binding joint venture, or any specific naval export contract; the framework itself remains to be finalised and approved.

How this item counts. No movement: no answer to who owns, who operates, whose law governs or who made the parts changes. Weight 0. MoU only, no binding JV or contract yet; both already European firms. European Sovereignty Index
