ESA and DAS Photonics qualify quantum laser core for QKDSat satellite

Spain's DAS Photonics finished qualifying the Faint Pulse Source, QKDSat's quantum laser core, under an ESA ARTES contract, delivering the model to prime contractor Redwire Europe for Europe's pre-operational quantum key distribution satellite.

Verified European Space Agency press release, 1 September 2026

What it does not test. This confirms a component qualification and delivery, not a satellite launch, an operational service date, or the value of the underlying ARTES contract, which ESA's release does not state.

How this item counts. No movement: no answer to who owns, who operates, whose law governs or who made the parts changes. Weight 0. Component delivery within already-European ARTES program; parts answer unchanged, no prior dependency shifted. European Sovereignty Index
