Bulgaria and Latvia receive first payments under the EU's SAFE defence instrument

Bulgaria received its first SAFE payment of EUR 489.3 million (15 percent of its EUR 3.3 billion allocation) and Latvia EUR 524.7 million (15 percent of its EUR 3.5 billion allocation), both on 28 August 2026, under the EU's EUR 150 billion defence loan instrument.
