UK signs GBP 453.5 million contract with BAE and Leonardo for Typhoon ECRS Mk2 radar

The UK Ministry of Defence signed a GBP 453.5 million production contract with BAE Systems, Leonardo UK and Parker Meggitt to build the ECRS Mk2 AESA radar for RAF Typhoons, sustaining about 1,300 jobs, part of a package MoD billed as half a billion pounds with a second Typhoon contract.

Verified Defence Equipment and Support (UK Ministry of Defence) press release, 22 January 2026

What it does not test. Does not establish delivery of the radar to aircraft; this is a production contract award, not a fielded capability.

How this item counts. No movement: no answer to who owns, who operates, whose law governs or who made the parts changes. Weight 0. Production contract with existing UK/EU suppliers; no new sovereignty question moved. European Sovereignty Index
